Prepare For The Audition
If you are a musician you know what it takes to develop and maintain your chops. Practice and more practice. The same is true for an actor, singer or dancer. Disciplined rehearsing every day will keep you in shape and ready to perform your best on your next audition. A musician may practice as much as four hours a day. Every performance we see actually took hours of preparation for it to look so polished. Gene Kelly, a famous dancer on the silver screen, was known to rehearse his dance steps 1000 times before filming. He danced through numerous takes before he got the one he wanted. So do not leave your audition up to fate or improvisation. Plan ahead.
Work out each nuance of your audition or casting call before going in front of a casting director. If you’re an actor know each action you will be using as well as breaths and pauses. A dancer needs to know their steps inside and out before using the routine for an audition. Vocalist need to do their warm up exercises and open up their voice. A musician also needs to get in the groove and work out the kinks before their audition. Why? Because this is your shot to get cast and land a great job. Take it seriously.
One of the hardest things to get used to is rejection. Get used to
it. The truth is you need to be rejected a lot before you are cast.
It is great if you landed a role the first time out. But, remember it
is usually the other way around. Look at rejection as a part of the
process and not as an end in itself. Either way, there is another audition
and chance to get booked and a role that is right for you. So keep on
trying. Search our audition
